Well… A new year is here and I am back. It felt good to step away from writing for a couple of months but I am definitely ready to get back to it! I hope 2012 ended well for you and that 2013 us off to a roaring start.
The last couple of months have been crazy… It’s the same every year… I always say that I am going to force myself to slow down and really take more time to enjoy the Holidays. And every year, the first week of January hits and I realize that Thanksgiving to Christmas to New Years – are all a blur. An incredibly blessed, fun, amazing blur.
Leading up to Christmas we always have this decoration that sits on the mantle over our fireplace. It has 2 wooden blocks inside it that are numbered on each side. You take them out and turn them to an appropriate number equal to the number of days left until Christmas. Does that make sense? Well our kids starting using it around Thanksgiving … They were super diligent about turning the blocks first thing every morning up until Christmas eve where it got down to 01. Christmas morning my son turned it to read 00 and he lamented that there weren’t enough numbers to restart the countdown for the next Christmas. I really believe he would have turned it to 365 and diligently kept up with it every morning until Christmas 2013.
Now I would love to tell you that my kids’ excitement was purely about the birth of Jesus… but of course it’s about the Nintendo DS, and the Barbie Dolls and the Lego sets. My son is 6 years old and my daughter is 4. They dig the presents. But my hope and prayer is that as they grow up… their excitement will be every day, for Jesus. That they will always follow in His footsteps… Loving God and Loving People. I pray that they will always consider others over themselves. I pray that their lives will be lived selflessly and that everyone who meets them will meet our Savior. They are on a good start… they are very loving and thoughtful… they definitely take strongly after their beautiful mother.
My prayer for all of us in 2013 is that we as Christ Followers strive to follow 1 John 2:6 … Following in Jesus’ footsteps means that we will certainly Love God and Love People… That we will Build Relationships with people missing from God… That we willMake A Difference in the lives of those in need… To show the world the Relevance of God in our everyday, walking around lives. That would be a truly happy, new year.
